    Masks (2019–)

“The truth lies in a state of darkness and shadow, where existence is without form.”
    — Junichiro Tanizaki

Masks is a series composed mostly of photographic collages. The works explore the thin line between the abstract and the figurative. Abstraction in photography can be understood as a gesture against the medium’s inherent indexicality, a movement beyond representation and narrative, toward a state of timelessness. Unlike painting, where abstraction is achieved through construction, photographic abstraction often proceeds through subtraction, by removing what is not essential.

Stripping the medium to its fundamental elements, light, shadow, and texture act as both sculptural and emotional forces, creating a liminal space where recognition and ambiguity coexist.

The title Masks reflects the idea that all forms are veils of the formless. In that suspension, the mind grows silent, and the image becomes a clearing, a place of stillness and wonder.
