Walls of Space
Walls of Space (2020) is a series of photos made on the island of Leros, the photos showcase details of walls that have been inverted.
The simple inversion of the images to their negatives reveals the space on top of which these walls are built and in this way, the background which is the space becomes evident and comes to the foreground.
This type of wall-making is an ancient way of building walls, made by stones that stand on their own, without a concrete base to support them or something
else to hold them together, it is a balancing act. The walls are literally made in space.
Walls are usually made to divide the land, to create borders, they are symbols of ownership, while space remains undivided
Space is the substratum of phenomena and yet we rarely notice it. We are mostly concerned with the phenomena and not the space in which phenomena manifest.
Our attention moves from one thing to the next constantly and as a result of this, we suffer from a lack of inner space.
The appreciation of space, especially at times like these where most of us live in confinement, is therapeutic.
